-

GOLD Coast basketball’s generation next is set for some friendly competition, with 14 highly rated Chinese players calling the city home this month.

After arriving on February 3, the visiting squad from the Guangdong Province of China has been based at the Seahawks’ Runaway Bay facility in preparation for the International Gold Coast Youth Tournament this weekend.

Ranging in age from 14 to 17, the touring high school students have been playing together for years and have collected a slew of awards.

They signed up to train daily on the Gold Coast ahead of the Youth Tournament, which is on tomorrow and Sunday.

Gold Coast City Basketball Association general manager Joel McInnes and basketball legend Pero Cameron have led the coaching sessions, with the intensive sessions aimed at improving all-round skills.

It won’t be just basketball for the tourists.

While staying at the Super Sports Centre, the Chinese boys will also take a cruise to Moreton Bay, take part in a Surf Awareness demonstration and go to the Australian Outback Spectacular, among other landmarks.
