QUEENSLAND YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

The titles begin tomorrow and run until Sunday at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast.

COMPETITORS

There will be 826 Gold Coast Nippers among the 1700-plus junior surf lifesavers. They are aged from under-10 to under15. They represent clubs from Rainbow Bay in the south to Port Douglas in the north.

THE TRAINING

As an example, Northcliffe offer 6-7 board/iron sessions a week and encourage their athletes to attend 3-4 swim sessions. The past few weeks have focused on surf skills, maintaining speed, race tactics and team events and then have a short taper period this week.
