NO SIGNS HOT BITE WILL SLOW

-

IT has been a great summer here on the Gold Coast.

Plenty of marlin, dolphin fish and mackerel have been caught and despite the last couple of weeks we have had some decent fishing conditions too.

Despite the fact yesterday marked the first day of autumn there is heaps to be excited about with the new season.

Firstly, not much changes this month at least.

The water temp will start to drop soon but in the meantime Palm Beach and Mermaid reef are still holding mackerel and the great news is we should see more turn up this month.

There are still marlin being caught on the 36 fathom grounds as well as dolphin fish on any FAD.

It has been a great start to the prawn season but this is the month we traditionally see the large schools of banana prawns turn up at the powerlines and further north around the Logan River.

Big muddies are on the move this month too and we have already seen some great catches of big bucks, especially after the recent heavy rains.

Summer is mangrove jack season but given the hot, stormy afternoons we are experiencing still, we have excellent fishing in our rivers and as a result big jacks have been caught this week.

Out on the wide reefs like the 50 fathom grounds it is now worth starting to target big snapper.

New surf gutters have been whipped up by the recent big swell and they are holding quality whiting along our surf beaches.

The flathead fishing should start to improve this month too, as will the jew fishing.

It has been an excellent summer for those fishing the Seaway but it should only get better, especially for those using live baits.

Wahoo are worth targeting this month too as they increase in numbers around Nine Mile and the Gravel Patch east of Burleigh Heads.

Troll a high speed metal head lure between 12-15 knots. All in all March is a great time to be a Gold Coast fisherman.
