- EMILY SELLECK

THE Gold Coast’s only beachfront dance eisteddfod is heating up with registrations now open.

Step Up Surfers Paradise is taking place on the Glitter Strip after the Commonwealth Games from April 27-29 and encourages amateur dancers from around the country to sign up for their chance to win $5000 in cash prizes.

With age categories catering for under-12s to over16s, the city’s youngest movers and groovers are invited to battle it out on the golden dance floor that is Surfers Paradise beach

Surfers Paradise Alliance CEO Mike Winlaw said Step Up aimed to nurture the region’s strong dance culture and provide a platform for young dancers to express their creativity to a larger audience.

“For visitors to Surfers Paradise, Step Up will provide a brilliant spectacle of colour and energy, with a wonderful display of dance along the foreshore,” Mr Winlaw said.

“While there will be plenty of action with the performers onstage, the festival itself will be a true celebration of the creative expression for all with vibrant themed dance parties, workshops and special events taking place during the threeday festival.”

As part of the event, Step Up will host a series of workshops including a kids’ dance workshops and hip-hop workshops to foster contestants’ love of dance and provide an opportunity to hone their skills.
