Slick Snitz off to final in Sydney
MURWILLUMBAH trainer Matthew Dunn’s talented Snitz secured a start in the $500,000 NSW Country Championships Final with a brilliant win at Grafton yesterday.
Snitz landed some big bets when he burst through along the inside to claim the $150,000 Country Championships Qualifier (1400m).
Dunn said the three-yearold was unlikely to have another start before the rich Randwick final on April 7.
Snitz was heavily backed into $1.55 favouritism – including a bet of $24,000 at $1.70 – before scoring by a nearly a length from early leader Ferniehurst ($18) with Iggy The Moocher ($17), a stablemate of the winner, nearly three lengths away third.
Dunn said Snitz, who has six wins from 10 starts, had improvement ahead of the final.
“He has a few lengths up his sleeve,’’ Dunn said. “He had to go to 1400m second-up with a little trial in between runs.”
Snitz has vaulted into equal second favouritism at $7 with Suncraze and Victoriem behind Kopi Luwak ($4.60) for the Randwick final.
Dunn also had success with La Scopa and Tristan de Angel yesterday, while Gold Coast trainers Melissa Leitch (Courage Within) and Trevor Whittington (They Call Me Rose) also had winners.
