Gender backlash to reptile handler ad

-

A GOLD Coast reptile park owner has found himself in hot water after posting a job ad looking for males only.

Reptile Kingdom Australia owner Lucas Cheyne posted an ad on the Australian Reptile Sales and Supplies facebook page which stipulated for a “male aged between 18-50 years to assist us at shows doing wildlife presentations.”

“It will at times involve extended travel and time away from home,” it read. “So this would suit a person passionate about reptiles, keen for an adventure and no other major commitments or tie downs.”

The job ad was quickly slammed.

“It’s incredibly important that they have a penis because only someone with a penis could possibly do that kinda [sic] job,” wrote Steph Greyknight.

“I’d be interested if you allowed a female to apply,” wrote Ashleigh Frangleton.

“I currently own reptiles and I’m in my second year of studying biology with the full intentions of becoming a wild life biologist concentrating in herpotology [sic]. But sorry, don’t have the right anatomy!!” Mr Cheyne defended his ad. “It is a situation where we are travelling and having to live together for two to three weeks,” he said.

“It costs me $150 a day extra to book separate rooms to give a female the privacy that she deserves,” Mr Cheyne said.
