NO ROOM TO SWING A CAT SO HELP GIVE THEM A HOME

-

THE Animal Welfare League of Queensland is literally packed to the rafters as adoption rates stall across their shelters.

With more than 160 cats and kittens at the Coombabah rehoming centre alone, the charity organisation, which also has two Brisbane shelters, is struggling to find homes with the 650-plus moggies they have in their care.

The organisation has 250 adult cats and 400 kittens waiting to be adopted as part of their vow to never euthanise a sociable, healthy or treatable pet.

Gold Coast shelter rehoming supervisor Max Burndred said that they were so full they were “bursting” with cats.

“We’re putting up more crates in our care centre,” she said.

“We have 41 cats here alone, 100 cats in cat care (on-site) and the cat ward is chockers. There are 28 kittens available.”

Ms Burndred said adoption rates had “grinded to a halt” and they had had a big influx of kittens.

“It’s been a big kitten season this year,” she said.

“Come in and adopt.”
