Indigenous judge to sit

QUEENSLAND barrister Nathan Jarro has been appointed the state’s first indigenous judge.

Mr Jarro has been appointed to Brisbane’s District Court, starting on Monday, after previously working in family and criminal law, and serving as Deputy Public Interest Monitor since 2011.

He is already one of Queensland’s most senior practising indigenous lawyers, having recently focused on insurance, administra­tive, commercial and property law.
