SYDNEY’S Lance Franklin booted eight goals to help his side to a gritty win over West Coast last night.

The Coleman Medallist started his year with a bang, demolishing the Eagles in a 115-86 victory at Optus Stadium. Jack Darling and Mark Le Cras each kicked three majors for West Coast but it was the Franklin show.

Meanwhile, Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron says youngster Lachie Whitfield will still play in the midfield this year despite slotting seamlessly into defence.
