- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

AN EX-BIKIE allegedly armed with three different weapons has been charged following a two-hour long standoff on the southern Gold Coast.

Police negotiators and the Specialist Emergency Response Team were called to Robina around 12.15pm on Saturday to negotiate and subdue the 31-year-old man.

Paramedics and the K9 unit were also called.

The man, a former Bandidos bikie, was reported to be armed with a baseball bat, a knife and a replica samurai sword during the two-and-ahalf hour siege at the Fairlight Ave address.

The ex-bikie had “trashed” the house beforehand, allegedly smashing windows, doors and walls at the property.

One neighbour, who declined to be named, said police were calling his name to try to calm him down during the ordeal.

“It was pretty said.

“I went out to my car to get some stuff and I just heard all this smashing.”

The neighbour described the area as quiet. He said although he had seen the man in the area before, he had not had an issue with him. scary,” he

Neighbour Gordon Walker also said he heard police telling the man to drop the knife and the sword.

Another neighbour said there had been an incident the day before, which police confirmed.

The man and the woman involved are believed to be known to each other.

Neighbour Natalie Brownsdon said she was amazed to see the man alive and had expected “an undertaker out” to the property.

Regional duty officer Inspector Jim Plowman said the man refused to co-operate when police arrived and that a 23-year-old woman had fled the address earlier that day.

“He received a minor injury with the broken glass, he basically trashed the whole place,” he said.

“Negotiators had success getting part way with him (but) to come officers found a chance and restrained him.”

Around 2.45pm the man was taken from the home restrained and placed on a stretcher to be taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

He was charged with wilful damage and issued with a domestic violence order, issued on behalf of the woman who had left the home the day before. He will appear in court at a later date.
