Couple in fear after thugs killed kittens
THREE cats have been killed, two beaten to death and one strangled, in a horrific crime believed to have been committed by standover men.
The pets – 11-month-old Mojo and two kittens, Frankie and Milo – never stood a chance, according to owners Courtney and Sarah Spiller who found the cats laid out on their couch.
They believe the crime was meant to “send a message’’, but whoever was responsible had the wrong target after showing up at their front door at the weekend looking for someone who had moved out long ago.
Courtney Spiller said she and Sarah believed the house they moved into at Pimpama “came with a history’’.
“I left for work at 4.15pm on Sunday and my partner heard a knock at the door,” Ms Spiller said. “They just

continued knocking so she eventually answered it and there was one scrawny guy covered in tattoos and then there were three big muscley guys covered in tattoos behind him.
“They basically said they were looking for someone whose name started with Z, I think. They said he still lived here, which they don’t. We’ve lived here for seven months.
“They didn’t believe us and kept asking her who is the man of the house and then they finally left the front door, and stood down on the driveway sussing out the house.
“They eventually left and my partner called me straight away and I told her to lock all the doors, go to the neighbours and ask if they saw anything, because everybody was in the street.”
But when Sarah returned home, the cats were dead. They had been beaten and strangled before being positioned on the couch.
“She has come home after talking to the neighbours. She has walked into the house and the two dogs were barking, sitting at the front door,’’ Courtney said.
“She saw a little bit of blood in the hallway. I think the dogs had bitten the person. She walked through the hallway into the loungeroom and that’s when she saw the three cats perfectly placed on the couch, with one drop of blood next to the cats, but none on them.
“We took them to the vet and they’ve said to us that Mojo, who was just two weeks from turning one, was strangled and the two little ones, Frankie and Milo, were beaten to death.”
She said they were now living in fear in their own home, worried the thugs would return.
“We’ve had six break-ins, three attempted break-ins and now this has happened,’’ she said.
“It’s extremely unsafe … and we’re absolutely devastated about this now.
“I’ve been crying pretty much non-stop since it happened. I just don’t know what to do. Those cats meant so much to us, it’s just really hard.
“The poor things wouldn’t have known what was happening … I’m just glad they didn’t hurt the dogs.”
Because of the incident, the women say they are afraid and want to break their lease with the real estate agency and move out.
Detectives and forensic officers scoured the Pimpama home yesterday and are asking for anyone with any information about the incident to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
