Gold Coast traffic returns to normal

- ANDREW POTTS

SPEED limits on the Gold Coast stretch of the M1 will return to normal from tomorrow in the first wave of changes to the city’s traffic landscape following the end of the Commonwealth Games.

Drivers will again be able to travel at 110km/h between Logan and Gaven but some changes will remain.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said traffic management during the Games had proven successful.

“The M1 will be back to nor- mal on Tuesday and people will see those changes come into effect but other changes will remain in place,” he said.

The ban on trucks driving in the right hand lands will remain in place because it has worked well, Mr Bailey added.

The changes in speed limits put in place for the Games are expected to be reviewed in coming months to consider whether it was effective in reducing congestion and crashes.

A decision on whether the speed limits will be lowered permanently is set to be made mid-year.
