COUPLE STILL ON A ROLL AFTER 65 YEARS

-

CANUGRA couple Peter and Ray Hickson (right) celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary yesterday.

They met in Hobart when Ray, now 84, was working at Government House and Peter, now 87, was working at the Hobart City Council.

Ray had come out from Southampton, England, as an 18-year-old to start a new life in Australia after living through World War II as a young girl.

The couple met at the greyhound races and fell in love instantly.

The cool weather of Hobart made the change to the Gold Coast easier for Ray and the couple went on to have four children, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

The couple love playing bowls together, even participating in the Pan Pacific Masters Games two years ago with son Stephen and his wife Karen and continue to enjoy the sport at the Canugra Bowls Club as the presidents of the men’s and women’s clubs.
