A larger round of S groundswel­l builds in from today to Friday; generating powerful surf in the 3 to 6ft range across northern NSW, while wrapping in at much lower levels north of the border.

TODAY

Directiona­l S groundswel­l ranging from 2 to 4ft northern NSW south facing breaks, building to 3 to 5ft during the day, possibly bigger into the afternoon. Mixing with slight ESE windswell at 1 to 3ft southern Queensland’s exposed beaches, grading to tiny or near-flat elsewhere. WIND: Early light SW to SSW 10 to 15 knots, tending SE during the morning and then ESE 5 to 15 knots during the arvo.

TOMORROW

Longer period S groundswel­l fills in. Solid sets to 4 to 5ft+ northern NSW south facing breaks, grading to 2 to 3ft+ exposed QLD breaks and wrapping at 1 to 2ft+ inside the points and bays with size depending on exposure. WIND: Early light offshore landbreeze­s 0 to 5 knots, tending NE to NNE 5 to 15 knots during the afternoon.

FRIDAY

S groundswel­l slowly eases. Ranging from 3 to 4ft northern NSW south facing breaks. Mixing with E tradewind swell at about 2 to 3ft southern QLD exposed beaches and smaller along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Early light offshore land-breezes, tending E to NE 5 to 10 knots.

SATURDAY

Leftover S groundswel­l. Sets ranging from 2 to 3ft northern NSW south facing breaks. Mixing with E windswell at similar levels across southern QLD exposed beaches and smaller along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Early light offshore land-breezes turning SSE to ESE 5 to 15 knots.

SUNDAY

Slight E tradewind swell mixing with residual S swell. Sets ranging either side of 2ft exposed breaks, grading to 1 to 2ft inside the points and bays. WIND: Early light WSW to SW, tending ESE 5 to 10 knots during the afternoon.
