FROM FAIR WAY TO GAMES FAIR PLAY

-

GAMES Shaper Dave Danes epitomised the Commonwealth Games spirit to a tee.

The Palm Beach realtor gifted golf clubs, balls and a bag to an international delegate who yearned to get his son in the game back home.

As a fleet driver, Mr Danes got talking to Nigerian Olympic Committee member Yemi Asikaye while taking him to the walk race at Currumbin.

“We talked about his occupation and capacity in the Nigerian team, family — his 23year-old daughter’s studies and his 18-year-old son and sport,” Mr Danes said. “He mentioned that he would love to get some golf clubs to take back for his son … golf in Nigeria has a certain social status.”

After that conversation, Mr Danes went hunting and found a “good set of Callaway golf clubs, bag and golf balls”.

Mr Asikaye was more than appreciative of the gesture.

“(He said) ‘David, one day you may see my son play golf like Tiger Woods’.”
