THIS $100 million luxury tower is about to become the tallest high-rise in Broadbeach.

The 54-storey Class Broadbeach is planned for a 756sq m site on the corner of Charles Ave and Old Burleigh Rd and will have just 46 “ultra highend” units.

Replacing the twolevel Kurrawa Lodge, the tower will feature 34 fullfloor three-bedroom units, a three-level penthouse, five two-floor skyhomes and six twobedroom apartments.

“When people like Elon Musk come to the Gold Coast they stay at Oracle. Maybe in the future they will stay at Class Broadbeach,” said Brisbane real estate figure John Kubatov, spokesman for the developer Broadbeach Joint Venture.

“Our target is the highend market and these will be 375sq m units in the heart of Broadbeach.

“Broadbeach is a place which fuses the nature of the parklands and the beach with the amenities of restaurants and cafes.

“Kurrawa Lodge is an old two-level complex and our vision is for this to be a world-class building in a very prominent location.”

A development application for the project was this week filed with the Gold Coast City Council by the developer, a Brisbane-registered company.

The project will be considered by council’s planning committee this year.

Mr Kubatov insisted the developer had no interest in selling the site once approval was granted, saying “we are going to build”. He said more than $7 million had been spent in three years securing the seven units in the Kurrawa Lodge to allow the tower to proceed.

Once complete, the tower would become the Gold Coast’s sixth-tallest, based on currently complete buildings. However, its position would change following the completion of the 89-storey Spirit tower in 2020.

Class was designed by Palm Beach firm RH Frankland and Associates and would eclipse the beachfront view of neighbouring Oracle.

According to plans filed with the council, the tower will be divided into four residential precincts – the podium, low-rise, highrise and skyrise, reflecting the size of the units.

Other features of the proposed development are a ground-floor bar and restaurant, with the “grand concierge” foyer to feature a “green living wall” and water features.

The building would also have pools, saunas, a gym, bars, offices and “relaxation zones”.

The site has approval for a 17-storey tower.

Council planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell welcomed the project and said it was the latest in a series of high-level developments planned for Broadbeach.

“We have seen a renewed and strong interest in Broadbeach and this has led to a significant amount of activity,” he said. “There remains a significant amount of activity planned for this suburb as well as that which is currently under way.

“With so much activity taking place, the Gold Coast market remains strong in the post-Commonwealth Games period.”

Among the major projects planned for Broadbeach are The Star’s proposed 53-storey, $400 million tower, where work will start in July, and Little Project’s $200 million Signature, which is at market with construction expected to begin within a year.
