BOOST AS CULT HERO TO LINE UP FOR TWEED

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

FANS at Piggabeen Sports Complex are in for a treat with NRL cult figure Konrad Hurrell to don Tweed Heads colours for the first time.

Hurrell was dropped by Titans coach Garth Brennan on Tuesday after a patchy run and tomorrow against Ipswich begins his bid to earn a recall.

The Tongan will add a dangerous dimension in the centres and joins a series of high-profile Titans players in Ben Woolf’s squad, which also features Kane Elgey, Brendan Elliot and Ryan Simpkins.

“Koni is one of the most enthusiastic and explosive players in the NRL and I know he will drop back with a point to prove which is a bonus for us,” Woolf said.

“Kane Elgey showed what he could do when he played with real purpose and enthusiasm against the (Mackay) Cutters and Koni will be no different.

“Brendan Elliot showed in his few games with us earlier what a class player he is, especially in defence, and Ryan Simpkins is a great leader who does all the little things right.

“Hopefully they can blend in well with our boys who have lifted in confidence in the past weeks and really started to develop some good combinations.”

Tweed are chasing their fourth straight Intrust Super Cup win, though Woolf noted the form book goes out the door against Ipswich, with the Round 10 clash at 1.30pm.
