- CAMPBELL GELLIE

released by the Queensland Government reveals the impact Uber has had on Gold Coast taxi licences.

The sales of taxi licences are recorded by the State Government as they are the regulatory body for cabs.

The data from the government reveals that the average price of a Gold Coast taxi licence has dropped by 61 per cent since Uber was introduced in 2014.

In that year there were 21 Gold Coast taxi licences sold at an average price of $463,432.

Since then the number of licences changing hands has also decreased, just nine sold in 2015 at an average of $455,771.

In 2016, when the State Government legalised Uber, there were just two sold at an average of $232,394.

Seven were sold in 2017 for $175,766 on average and one sold so far in 2018 for $179,894.
