TEMPS’ MIXED BLESSING

-

WITH many of us on the Gold Coast waking in the past week to single-digit temps there is good and bad news regarding water temperature.

The good news is the water temp is currently about 23C meaning it’s beautiful for a swim or surfing, as you don’t need a wetsuit. It’s actually warmer in the water than out.

The bad news is we desperately need the water temp to drop to really fire up the tailor and other winter species like the mighty snapper.

Once the temp drops to about 20C I am expecting we will be in the midst of one of the best seasons in recent years. The indicators are all positive as the bait is already here and the fish numbers being landed are notably exceeding this time last year.

Unfortunately the water temp won’t drop to 20C for at least the next couple of months. In the meantime we will enjoy this magical time of year when we get the best of both worlds, the last of the summer species and the first of the winter.
