OUR knowledge of the work done by the Gold Coast Titans Community Foundation was sadly a bit limited. Chatting to Renee Cohen, community and game development manager for the club, and you soon realise the extraordinary work being done behind the scenes. “What I love about the foundation is how it can create real change by harnessing sport to connect with those in need. We can spend up to $1 million in a year on various projects and the success we can have with schoolchildren is quite remarkable. The players volunteer to help and then we match them to an area that interests them. The bonds they create have a lasting benefit and teachers have said that the attendance rates for schools go up dramatically especially in the lower socio-economic areas.”
