AUDIOLOGIST Suzanne Porter says people who address their hearing needs early do better in the long term than those who wait.

“This is due to a key factor known as auditory deprivation, a process that takes place when the areas of the brain involved in hearing are deprived of sound and become weaker,” she said.

“This means that the use of a hearing aid at a later date, when more extensive hearing loss is present, is not likely to be as successful as someone fitted earlier on. We fit many clients where the objective is to improve speech discrimination, with little change in the volume.

“Regardless of your hearing loss, with the latest technology all wearers can select a discreet hearing aid.

“There’s now no reason to have larger-size devices.”

A1 Discreet Hearing Aids has two managing hearing specialists who are accredited by the Office of Hearing Services to see pensioners and veterans at no charge through the Hearing Services Program.

All clients get a free hearing assessment and hearing aid recommendation.

It has clinics at Q Super Centre Mermaid Waters, Hope Island and Coolangatta.
