Penthouse fetches mega-bucks price
A MELBOURNE family will call the Gold Coast their home away from home after splashing $4.4 million on a Main Beach penthouse.
The multi-level apartment in the residential-only Pintari building on Cunningham Ave went under contract last month but the sale recently became unconditional.
Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty agent Kim Sharpe declined to comment on the price but said the ink on the sale was set to dry in the next few days. REAL ESTATE AGENT KIM SHARPE
“It’s due to settle Thursday,” he said.
Mr Sharpe said the buyers were private clients of his.
“It’ll be a holiday home for them, they keep a boat at the Southport Yacht Club,” he said.
He said there were a number of reasons they loved the luxury apartment, which has a rooftop pool, state-of-theart finishes and million-dollar views of the city, ocean and Broadwater.
“One was the proximity to the yacht club, the other was the size of the apartment and the uninterrupted never-tobe-built-out views,” Mr Sharpe said.
One of the penthouse’s standout features is the cus- on tom-made floating glass and stone staircase.
The Hong Kong-based seller removed the original staircase and installed the existing one as part of an extensive renovation after buying it in 2009.
Mr Sharpe said the fourbedroom, four-bathroom apartment’s bespoke features attracted many prospective buyers.
“I only had it on the market for 21 days so it wasn’t on the market very long,” he said.
“I did four open homes and I probably had 22 groups through.
“Because of our international footprint, we did field quite a lot of inquiries from overseas buyers.
“In lots of cases, they were expat Australians looking to purchase for when they returned to Australia.”
The apartment had been on the market under another agent for a few months prior to Mr Sharpe taking over the marketing in May.
He also sold the property to the seller almost a decade ago.
Mr Sharpe said the apartment’s sale was a significant one as it was rare for prestige WITH ALEISHA DAWSON & JESSICA BROWN

properties at Main Beach to hit the market.
“We don’t sell a lot of them at Main Beach because there’s never a lot of them on the market, it’s a very tightly held market,” he said.
“They don’t come up terribly often.”
However, he said the Coast’s luxury market had been very buoyant in the past 18 months.
