Man who abandoned dogs found months later in Victoria
A MAN who left bull mastiffs, including one which was pregnant, in his Coomera home before moving interstate has been fined $800. One of the two dogs had to be put down after the RSPCA rescued them in September 2016 as her aggressive behaviour made the dog unsuitable to be rehomed.
Kimberly Mark Williams did not attend Southport Magistrates Court where he faced two charges of unreasonable abandonment of pets.
Magistrate Louise Sheppard found him guilty in his absence and fined him $800.
She also ordered he pay more than $3000 in RSPCA costs for caring for the dogs.
The barrister representing the RSPCA, Adrian Braithwaite, said Williams told inspectors when they first visited the property that he was a breeder and was selling the dogs.
When inspectors came back days later, the property was abandoned with one of the dogs, Stella, tethered to a tree and the other, Cleo, trapped inside. Cleo was also pregnant and she had a litter of puppies while in RSPCA care.
Mr Braithwaite said the RSPCA found Williams in Victoria months later.
Cleo and her pups were rehomed but Stella was put down.
