REVIEW
EMILY Gale’s (above) newest novel I am Out with Lanterns has brought the big screen to your fingertips — and I am not talking about your iPhone.
Following a similar pattern to popular young adult television series like Riverdale or 13 Reasons Why, readers are walked through a high school via the eyes of its students.
Instead of following one character, this novel shares the stories and lives of six completely different people; their past, present, and hopes for the future.
Gale is perfectly able to capture the real struggles high school students face; bullying, family tragedy, sexuality and drug abuse.
One thing that is particularly memorable about this novel is Gale’s exploration of autism and how that affects high school students.
Penguin Random House Australia will be releasing this novel July 30.
