Wasteful Tigerstix rue loss

A GLUT of missed chances in front of goal came back to bite Labrador in Saturday’s vital Brisbane Hockey League battle with ladder leaders Commercial.

The Tigerstix had scored 28 goals in their past four games — 40 per cent of their season total — but they found the Cobras defence harder to crack as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Labrador squandered several genuine scoring opportunities in the first quarter of the game at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre to continue a worrying pattern of wastefulness.

Sitting third, the Tigerstix felt the absence of Kookaburras striker Dylan Wotherspoon in front of goal.

The visiting Cobras went out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Ian Schulz and Caleb McCoombes.

Corey Piggin, one of Labrador’s best players in the Round 14 encounter, found the net for the home side but they couldn’t manage an equaliser.

Labrador face another test of their premiership credentials when they tackle defending champions Easts at Carina at 4.30pm this Saturday.
