Drunk in middle of road ‘bit two cops’

-

A WOMAN who was found lying drunk in the middle of the Gold Coast Highway allegedly bit two police officers and elbowed a third in the head when they tried to wake her.

One police officer was bitten so hard on the finger the woman broke the skin and drew blood.

Danielle Koschel, 22, sobbed as she was granted bail in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday after appearing on an assault charge.

Police were called when Koschel and her boyfriend were spotted in the middle of the highway at Palm Beach about 1am on Sunday morning.

When police tried to move the pair it is alleged Koschel struck out, biting and elbowing the officers.

Defence lawyer Jason Grant said Koschel was highly intoxicated at the time.

“She has very little recollection of what happened,” he said.

Mr Grant said Koschel worked two jobs, which would make it difficult to adhere to any curfew. He said she had no criminal history “whatsoever”.

Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan granted Koschel bail on the condition she reside at a Palm Beach address and she make an appointment with her long-term general practitioner to receive counselling.
