GC SHOW PUTS FOCUS ON LOCAL TALENT

GOLD Coast Show organisers are determined the event will be completely different to anything the city has seen before.

Come August 31, rides and entertainment will be held at Broadwater Parklands and the traditional agriculture side will be staged at Owen Park, but other parts of the region are tapping into it as well.

Helensvale night market NightQuarter is installing classic show rides and holding auditions for the main stage entertainment.

“The big thing is we’re going to be on the Broadwater and free entry,” Gold Coast Show CEO Lavinia Rampino said.

“From that angle, it’s going to be very different. It’s not a traditional showground. There aren’t many places in the country with a backdrop like the Broadwater.

“And we’ve got a massive stage area so we’re going to do the entertainment a bit differently, where local entertainers will audition at NightQuarter for a spot on the show main stage.

“We have so much talent on the Gold Coast and sometimes we forget there’s not a lot of places for emerging talent to get kickstarted, so giving them the opportunity to be on the stage at NightQuarter and then on stage at the show is a win-win for everyone.”

Hopeful performers will need to apply for the auditions by sending a video and biographical details to the Gold Coast Show Facebook page or via email by July 28.

This year’s Gold Coast Show will also extend to Marina Mirage and much of the Southport CBD, which will both be lit up with a custom lights and lasers.

NightQuarter is on the tram line, which Ms Rampino said would appeal to families worried about limited parking.
