Pros target Sanctuary Shootout

-

A $40,000 prize purse is helping lure an impressive field for the inaugural Gold Coast Sanctuary Cove Professional Shootout next month.

The event, part of the national Ladbrokes PGA ProAm Series, will be limited to a 19-person field and be played on the Pines Course on August 12.

Organisers believe the exciting format will attract a big crowd thanks to some of Australia’s best golfers taking part and the cut-throat nature of the event.

Professionals already confirmed for the event include Brad Kennedy, who won on the Japan tour this month, 2017 Queensland Open champion Michael Sim and 2016 Hong Kong Open winner Sam Brazel.

Reigning Victorian Open champion Simon Hawkes and David Bransdon, who qualified for the US Open in June, will also take part.

Starting with the full field on the first tee, the professional that records the highest score on each hole will be eliminated one by one.

The field will finally be reduced to two over the opening 17 holes with the last men battling it out on the 18th to be crowned the inaugural Mercedes-Benz Gold Coast Sanctuary Cove Shootout Champion.

Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club executive general manager Paul Sanders, said the club was looking forward to hosting the inaugural event on the pro-am series.

Having played the format many times before with their own members, he’s sure the addition of PGA professionals will only add excitement.

“The shootout format for our members is arguably the most supported event annually at the club and to present this format with the PGA professionals is exciting for the members, residents and local community,” he said.

The shootout begins at 10am on Sunday, August 12.
