Musk creates world’s most sought after surfboard

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

TESLA Motors founder Elon Musk’s latest people mover is making waves around the world.

Musk’s car company has released a limited-edition carbon fibre surfboard that boasts the same finish as the company’s cars.

Released on the weekend, only 200 of the boards were produced.

While they originally retailed for $2000 ($US1500), fins not included, they sold out in one day and are already listed for sale on eBay with bids topping more than $4000 ($US3000). Other online sites have the boards listed for sale for $6000.

The surfboard was developed by Tesla’s design studio in Hawthorne, California, Lost Surfboards and shaper Matt ‘Mayhem’ Biolos.

The boards use Lost’s ‘black dart’ carbon fibre inspired by the interior of Tesla’s cars.

“The Limited Edition Tesla Surfboard features a mix of the same high-quality matte and gloss finishes used on all our cars,” Tesla says.

The surfboards are the latest in a range of Tesla-branded products that includes hoodies, leather jackets, hats and external smartphone batteries.
