Finals spot needs a first by Firebirds
GRETEL Tippett says the Firebirds will not carry any mental demons into tomorrow’s must-win clash against the Magpies despite never having beaten Collingwood before.
The Firebirds’ finals hopes hinge on their performance against the Magpies in their Super Netball showdown, with a victory set to guarantee the side a top-four berth.
But to avoid missing the finals series for a second year straight, Queensland must win.
While the Magpies are out of finals contention, the Firebirds have to overcome their hoodoo, having lost all three previous meetings.
However, Tippett does not believe Collingwood’s undefeated streak has taken a mental toll on the Firebirds.
“This will be our fourth time, so hopefully there isn’t (a mental block),” she said.
“It’s not going to be easy, it’s going to be very tough. I know they haven’t had the most successful season but they definitely have a stellar line-up.”
