Vital win for Roosters

-

ROOSTERS remain alive in Gold Coast men’s division 1 hockey following a thrilling last-minute win against Waratahs yesterday.

Knowing a loss to the fourth-placed Waratahs would end their finals hopes, Roosters prevailed 2-1 at Runaway Bay thanks to a 70th-minute strike from Oliver Rodgers.

Roosters had opened the scoring through Josh Baxter in the 45th minute, before Waratahs hit back five minutes later with a goal from Joshua Nowlan.

Rodgers then stepped up to convert a penalty corner, and his 14th goal of the season, to secure the three points for the Roosters.

In women’s division 1 yesterday, last-placed Capri secured a surprise 2-2 draw with Mudgeeraba, while ladder leaders Burleigh beat Roosters 3-1.
