NO city in Australia is booming quite like the Gold Coast.
We’ve just hosted the Commonwealth Games — an event that will generate $4 billion and establish the Coast as a global hub for major events.
Now, with a multibilliondollar pipeline of infrastructure projects set to be delivered over the next three years, the future is bright.
I’m proud to lead a government that’s delivering for the Gold Coast. I have the fondest memories of family holidays on the Coast, as do most Queenslanders. And we will continue to have many more.
It’s amazing to think how far the region has come in such a short period of time. But our task is far from over.
We know we need to invest in infrastructure to ensure the Gold Coast realises its potential as a truly global city.
That’s why we’re investing record funding in health, education, tourism and police on the Gold Coast.
In the last three years, we’ve invested $1.5 billion to host the Commonwealth Games, $500 million to fasttrack vital M1 upgrades and this week I opened the first of two new schools that we’re building on the Gold Coast.
We also invested
$2 billion to build the Gold Coast University Hospital, $1 billion to upgrade roads ahead of the Games, $160 million to duplicate the heavy rail and we’ve committed to support stage three of the light rail.
None of this would have been possible without a Labor Government.
Despite having wall-towall MPs on the Coast, the LNP cut millions of dollars in frontline services on the Gold Coast under Campbell Newman.
Thanks to Assistant Tourism Industry Development Minister and Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon, the Gold Coast finally has a strong local voice in Parliament.
