GOLFER DIES IN ARMS OF HIS FAMILY

- RUSSELL GOULD

GOLFING good guy Jarrod Lyle has passed away.

The 36-year-old, who fought cancer three times, went in to a coma on Monday having stopped hospital treatment last month to spend his last days with his family.

His fight ended peacefully at 8.20pm on Wednesday. His wife Briony released the following statement.

“It breaks my heart to tell everyone that Jarrod is no longer with us. Lusi, Jemma and I are filled with grief and now must confront our lives without the greatest husband and father we could ever have wished for.”

He is survived by Briony, and daughters Lusi, 6, and Jemma, 2.

Since it was revealed Lyle would stop hospital treatment more than $300,000 has been raised for his two daughters.

GOLFER Jarrod Lyle has been remembered for his positivity and fighting qualities – a devoted husband and father of two with a personality that uplifted everyone in his company.

Sadly, Lyle, 36, lost his brave and protracted fight with cancer on Wednesday night.

Heartfelt tributes flooded in from around the world.

Husband of Briony and beloved dad to Lusi, 6, and Jemma, 2, Lyle fought cancer three times, once as a teenager before his golfing career began, then a second time after he had played around the world.

His third diagnosis came last year after he had settled in Torquay, Victoria, and put spending time with his family above his desire to tour the world as a golfer.

After 12 months of debilitating treatments, in and out of hospital, Lyle last week opted to cease treatment and spend his final days with his girls.

Lyle lapsed into a coma on Monday and died peacefully, at 8.20pm on Wednesday, surrounded by his loved ones.

“Lusi, Jemma and I are filled with grief and now must confront our lives without the greatest husband and father we could ever have wished for,” Mrs Lyle said.

“At the same time, we have been blessed and overwhelmed with the messages and actions of support from around the world and feel comforted that Jarrod was able to happily impact so many people throughout

his life. Our humble thanks to you all.”

Last week, in a final gripping audio message, Lyle called himself the “luckiest golfer”, knowing the support he had around the world, having made friends throughout his golfing journey.

Despite his ordeal, Lyle’s classic Aussie attitude never left him. He made everyone around him smile too.

“Hope you find peace, and know you’ll be remembered as the bloke who brought life into every room you entered! Love ya mate,” said Aussie star Marc Leishman on news of Lyle’s passing.
