Muguruza gives Brisbane flick

GARBINE Muguruza has cut and run from her ill-fated sequence of visits to Brisbane, choosing Perth’s Hopman Cup as her launch pad for next summer’s Australian Open.

The Spaniard, last year’s Wimbledon champion, retired during a match, citing injury, to end three straight Brisbane International campaigns. She pulled out of the event without playing on a previous visit.
