Keebra Park blow big lead

-

DEFENDING champions Keebra Park have been bundled out of the NRL Schoolboy Cup in devastating fashion.

The Southport-based rugby league nursery were leading 18-0 in their southeast Queensland semi-final against Marsden at Kougari Oval yesterday before their rivals got on a roll to steal the game 20-18 via a late try to fullback Tesi Nui.

“You should never lose in those positions but we didn’t execute well in the second half and full credit to Marsden,” Keebra coach Glen Campbell said.

“The players are extremely disappointed and know they should have been able to handle that but ... they got momentum on us and we just couldn’t turn it back on them.”

Keebra NRL products Payne Haas and David Fifita were on hand to cheer their old team on.

Palm Beach Currumbin hung on 30-28 against Wavell to progress to a clash with Townsville’s Ignatius Park for a spot in the state final.
