Late bloom a rich scent for old Rose

HIDDEN Rose’s return from retirement has resulted in the 10-year-old mare adding a sixth win to her record.

The Kim Andersontrained mare won Saturday’s Fillies & Mares BenchMark 65 Hcp (1200m) at Aquis Park with hoop Andrew Spinks.

It was Hidden Rose’s third run since returning from retirement.

The mare’s career came to a close in October last year and she spent six months in the paddock before Anderson made the decision to bring her back.

“We weren’t going to put her back into work after last year and we were actually keen to send her to Spirit Of Boom at that time but they wouldn’t put any more mares to him,” Anderson said. “She looked so good in the paddock and I had another one I wanted to put in work and needed a horse to gallop with him so I brought her back to see what she was like.

“I actually think she is better now than she has been in the last couple of years.”

Anderson credited the rest and time in the paddock for Hidden Rose’s successful return.

Hidden Rose, who celebrated the first of her six career wins in 2013 at Eagle Farm, had her first run back in July, where she finished seventh over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.

She improved in her next run at the Gold Coast, finishing fourth over 1200m, before returning to the same track to win.

Anderson said she was still weighing up whether to send Hidden Rose back into retirement now or push on and shoot for more.

“That’s what we are trying to figure out,” Anderson said.

“We are thinking of maybe doing a BenchMark 70 at the Gold Coast and potentially take her up in distance.

“She used to run 1400m two years ago and ran a couple of placings at that distances. The way she is going she is looking for more.”
