Kiwi faces deportation
A NEW ZEALAND immigrant’s ability to stay on the Gold Coast is in doubt after he was convicted of trafficking drugs yesterday.
More than 200 messages relating to drugs were found on Blair Robert Smythe’s phone after police stopped him in Elanora on April 11 last year. Smythe, 20, pleaded guilty
in the Supreme Court at Southport to one count each of trafficking, possession of cannabis and possession of utensils relating to drug supply.
Justice David Boddice sentenced him to two-and-a-half years’ prison, to be released immediately on parole. Under immigration law, anyone sentenced to 12 months prison, whether any time is served or not, may face deportation.
