A combinatio­n of S groundswel­l and rising ESE windswell sees junky surf prevailing across all coasts today and tomorrow, mostly in the 2 to 3ft plus range across exposed areas. Both swells fade as a new, long-range E swell enters the mix on Thursday, maintainin­g small-ish surf across all coasts under lighter inshore winds tending ENE during the day.

TODAY

Reinforcin­g S groundswel­l combines with rising ESE windswell. Ranging from 3 to 5ft across northern NSW south facing coasts, grading to 2 to 4ft open beaches. ESE windswell up to 2 to 3ft+ exposed Qld breaks, grading smaller along open beaches and across the Sunshine Coast.

WIND: ESE 15 to 20 knots.

TOMORROW

Reinforcin­g SSE groundswel­l mixing with easing ESE windwell at a junky 2 to 4ft exposed breaks, grading smaller elsewhere with size depending on exposure. WIND: SE to ESE 10 to 20 knots, tending E later.

THURSDAY

Easing SSE swell crossing over

with smaller scale ENE windswell and long-range E swell. Lumpy 2 to 3ft+ sets northern NSW south facing beaches, grading to a junky 1 to 3ft southern Qld exposed coasts and smaller elsewhere with size depending on exposure.

WIND: Early light and variable tending E to NE 5 to 15 knots during the afternoon.

FRIDAY

Mix of smaller-scale E and SE swells around 2ft exposed breaks, grading smaller elsewhere with size depending on exposure.

WIND: Early NW to NNW tending N to NNE and freshening to 15 to 20 knots.

SATURDAY

Background E/SE swells and light NE windswell mostly 1 to 2ft exposed beaches, grading tiny elsewhere.

WIND: Early NW to NNW inshore around 10 to 15 knots, possibly tending variable before turning light southeast to northeaste­rly later.
