SHE has her sights set on selection for the Southern Stars’ looming series against New Zealand but Gold Coast Dolphins all-rounder Delissa Kimmince has been tackling a more important assignment over the past week.

The 29-year-old, who will find out today if she has made the squad for Australia’s threematch T20 series beginning on September 29, arrived on the Coast with teammates on Thursday for the Stars’ six-day training camp at the Dolphins’ Robina headquarters.

Kimmince, who has played 11 one-dayers and 16 T20s for her country, said inspiring the next generation of female cricketers was an important part of her stint at home.

“That’s the beauty of our game at the moment, I think going back to these local areas really allows other girls to see that you can achieve what we are. We’re quite impressed and thrilled with how much support we’ve had,” she said.

“It’s always nice to come back to a place (the Dolphins) that’s been extremely good to me. We have such a good girls cricket program here as well so it’s nice to come back here and see the familiar faces and the people that just love cricket.

“On Sunday, we had a group of under-11 girls come down and they just wanted to be around it and see the girls that they idolise.”

Kimmince is also eyeing a spot in the Stars squad for November’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies.
