No ban on close fans

-

RUGBY Australia says it wants stars and fans to keep mixing post-match but will review “security” after an ugly fracas involving a Wallabies player on the Gold Coast.

Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle said no further action would be pursued despite towering Wallabies flanker Lukhan Tui’s argy-bargy with an irate fan.

It erupted soon after the final whistle of the Wallabies 19-23 loss to Argentina at CBUS Super Stadium on Saturday night.

The Bulletin revealed yesterday one of Tui’s young family members was caught up physically in the drama, which Rugby Australia said had prompted the player’s reaction.

Ms Castle said Lukhan had indicated he did not want to pursue the matter.

But she said Rugby Australia would review security: “The interaction between players and fans is an extremely important part of sport. We want rugby fans to be able to get up close and personal with their heroes.”
