IT seems the US stars of

Dora the Explorer have traded poor old Boots the monkey for some new native Australian furry friends.

Desperate Housewives favourite Eva Longoria, who plays Dora’s mum in the live action feature currently filming on the Gold Coast, and her on-screen daughter Isabela Moner have become wildlife warriors since they landed in Australia.

The duo have been sharing their close encounters with koalas and kangaroos with their thousands of followers on social media.

Longoria, who began filming her role alongside Michael Pena on Dora’s location set in Oxenford on Monday, made a beeline for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the weekend after landing on the Coast on Friday.

“I just wanted to see a koala and I got so much more,” she wrote in a post accompanied by several pictures of her day out at the sanctuary with her infant son Santiago.

“Today I got to meet Bunker, a sweet male koala whose mother was tragically killed by a car. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary dedicates itself to save and protect these animals with their remarkable hospital and other facilities.”

Moner, who also fell for our local wildlife during a trip to the sanctuary, has posted more photos of herself cuddling koalas on social media – this time during a trip to Australia Zoo to meet Bindi Irwin.
