I wish those insisting that Cooper Cronk must play in Sunday’s NRL grand final would take a breath. If his injury as bad as Thurstons’ last year, he risks permanent damage , & noone should be expected to play one game at the price of permanent disablement. Apart from being unreasonable, it is possibly unlawful. Occupational health & safety regulations forbid placing any employee at risk of serious injury. Clearly, playing an employee with a preexisting major injury carries the near-certainty of serious additional injury. Insurance companies are entitled to say, “Not paying, he should never have been on the park”. How about a doctors’ certificate stating fitness to play? Cooper Cronk has nothing to prove, is one of the cleanest & most courageous players ever to pull on a jersey, and a perfect gentleman to boot. His welfare should be a matter of common sense.
