BROADY ROLLS OUT THE BARRELS FOR BEER FEST RETURN
THERE’S a saying that everyone needs to believe in something, which is followed by the line “and I believe I’ll have another beer’’.
Connoisseurs of the foaming amber ale and beautifully cold cider won’t be stuck for choice at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach, this weekend when more than 35 breweries set up their barrels, temprites and taps to tempt Gold Coasters with over 150 different brews at the Crafted Beer & Cider Festival.
The festival brings local brewing companies including Burleigh Brewing Co and Lost Palms Brewing Co together, along with live music and some of the Gold Coast’s finest food trucks.
New on the line-up this year is Harajuku Gyoza Beer Stadium, bringing its Japanese Yoyogi beer to join dozens of other international flavours.
Manager Andy Yang said events like the festival were important both for Gold Coasters to engage with brewers and breweries to bounce ideas off each other.
“The craft brewery community on the Gold Coast is huge. There are a lot opening and definitely more opening in future too, so events like this get the industry growing,” he said.
“I think we want to get some new ideas. We do a lot of pilot batches that are oneoffs, so it’s about seeing what everyone else is doing and getting ideas and inspiration from them as well.”
Festival director Anna Cook, working alongside her brother Sam Pearce, said the pair were excited to learn what the Gold Coast thinks of craft beer in 2018.
“It’s supporting an industry that you know and understand what people really love about it,” she said.
“You’ll notice that a lot of the people behind the stands are the brewers themselves, even with some of the larger ones. It’s about engaging with a product and understanding who it is that’s putting their passions behind the industry.”
The Crafted Beer & Cider Festival is on from 12-8.30pm at Broadbeach this Saturday. The event is strictly 18-plus.
