Stars in frame on Coast film sets
A BIOPIC about Errol Flynn filmed on the Gold Coast with a reported budget of $12 million is about to hit the big screen.
In Like Flynn charts the remarkable early life of adventurer, opium smuggler, gambler, street fighter, buccaneer, gold prospector and lover Errol Flynn.
Directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander 1 & 2, Resident Evil: Extinction, Teen Wolf), In Like Flynn stars Thomas Cocquerel (Kidnapping Mr. Heineken, Billionaire Boys Club, Red Dog: True Blue) as a young Flynn with co-stars Corey Large, William Mosely, Isabel Lucas, David Wenham, Dan Fogler and Clive Standen.
Shot entirely on location on the Coast, Flynn’s grandson Luke Flynn was one of the film’s writers and also served as executive producer alongside Gary Ousdahi, Felipe Dieppa and Joan LeSeur.
The film transports audiences back to 1930, before Flynn became a legendary matinee idol of Hollywood’s Golden Age, when he was a guide for a Hollywood producer in the jungles of Papua New Guinea.
In Like Flynn will be released on October 11 but Gold Coasters can see it first when the Gold Coast Film Festival hosts a Q and A preview at Event Cinemas Pacific Fair on Monday at 7pm.
As In Like Flynn prepares to open,, filming on the live-action version of Dora the Explorer continues on the Coast.
The film’s star, Isabela Moner, enjoyed a long weekend in Far North Queensland, later posting pictures of herself enjoying a swim at Mossman Gorge on Instagram.
Dora isn’t the only feature film in production on the Coast – director Luke Sparke has also started rolling cameras on Occupation: Rainfall, the sequel to his well-received sci fi romp
Occupation.
The film, which stars Aussie actor Dan Ewing and Crazy Rich Asians’ Hollywood favourite Ken Jeong, is being filmed on the Coast and on Mt Tamborine. Jeong arrived on the Coast on Monday, posting video of his luxury digs at Palazzo Versace on Instagram.
Jeong isn’t the only new cast member on the sequel – Vince Colosimo also signed on.
Dora The Explorer cast member Temuera Morrison is one of several original cast from Occupation back for the sequel, along with Stephany Jacobsen, Aaron Jeffery, Zac Garred, Izzy Stephens and Trystan Go.
