Boxer waits for decision

-

A FORMER Commonwealth Games boxer charged with allegedly assaulting two teenagers in a Surfers Paradise nightclub will learn his fate at the end of the month.

Scottish boxer Stephen Wallace Lavelle is charged with allegedly assaulting Kortney Rykers Hollier and Bilal McCracken Strickland, both 18, at SinCity Nightclub in the early hours of April 12. Lavelle has pleaded not guilty.

The alleged assault occurred while sprinter Usain Bolt took to the DJ booth in the nightclub during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April this year.

On the second day of the hearing in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday Lavelle gave testimony that he had acted in self defence.

Magistrate Mark Howden adjourned the matter to October 31 where he is expected to hand down his decision.
