Chevron Island SPV Pty Ltd has lodged plans with the Gold Coast Council for a 17-storey project, Allure, on the corner of Dalpura and Burra streets.
It follows the approval of eight other towers on Chevron Island, of up to 47 levels high, in the past four years. All of them are yet to be built. Cnr Anembo St and Mawarra St

“We commissioned a comprehensive independent traffic study through Bitzios Consulting which found the proposal would have minimal impact on existing traffic and congestion issues on Chevron Island,” said development director Peter Saba. “The island is undergoing a renaissance led by the ongoing development of the Home of the Arts (HOTA) and the proposed building will become a complementary and respectful addition to the developing residential precinct of Chevron Island.”
The project is planned for a Thomas Dve and Darrambal St Height: 30 storeys Site area: 2959sq m Cnr Weemala St and Stanhill Dve Height: 9 storeys Site area: 1639sq m Stanhill Dve

The developer claims the tower will have the largest apartments on Chevron Island, covering a minimum of 100sqm. Most apartments will have also two car parks.
The council has come under fire in recent years for approving major high-density unit blocks on the island despite ongoing traffic issues.
No height limits are currently imposed on Chevron Island under the City Plan as it is considered a high-density area due to being within walking distance of two light rail stations.
Residents have called for a height limit cap to lower the growing pressure on traffic and ageing road and bridge infrastructure which connect to Surfers Paradise and Bundall.
There are no plans to expand or replace either of the single-lane bridges, while Thomas Dve is frequently in gridlock as motorists try to cross into Surfers Paradise. Cnr Burra St and Dalpura St

Residents fear further developments will only add to the traffic jam.
City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell welcomed the project.
“This kind of mid-rise development has been a welcome product on the property market,” he said.
“Chevron Island offers a wonderful lifestyle which is close to the beach and has a village feel.
“With the new green bridge connecting Chevron Island to HOTA, this property will become very well connected.”
