Coach adamant form has been found late

BLUEWAVES coach Matt Corbitt insists his Greater Brisbane League side are “on a roll” following their stunning 10-2 defeat of Carina.

After going down to the Redsox by three runs on Friday night to continue a miserable title defence, Surfers Paradise (6-24) yesterday reversed their fortune in front of a vocal home crowd.

Surfers dominated with the bat all day as Scott Hillier and Connor O’Gorman both recorded home runs.

“The boys played really well and, offensively, were outstanding,” Corbitt said.

“It was a good day for hitting and we took all of our opportunities.”

Brad Croft was a standout at short stop and with the bat, registering several important hits for the home side.

Jett Hasegawa, who recently received a scholarship to Miles Community College in the US, ensured the home side stayed on top with some outstanding pitching.

“We’re on a roll now,”

Corbitt said.

“We had one bad innings on Friday night but were playing good baseball and have been for a while.”

The Division 1 side wasn’t the only team to get a win with Surfers recording a Sunday sweep as all local league squads claimed success.

Meanwhile in Ipswich, the Coomera Cubs (11-18) suffered back-to-back losses against the first-placed Ipswich Musketeers.

In the first game, the Cubs were unable to overcome Ipswich’s hitting power as they went down by three runs.

They didn’t have long to lick their wounds as they ventured out onto the pitch a second time to replay a washed-out game from earlier in the season.

The result wasn’t much different with the Coomera Cubs eventually losing the game 10-2.

This week, the Cubs take on the Redcliffe Padres while Surfers face a two-game series against the Redland Rays.
