The misfits are still lovable after all these years

The Gympie Times - - RELAX - WITH Kiri ten Dolle

SOME movies from your childhood stick with you. The ones you can’t wait until your own children are old enough to watch them with you. One of those for many Gen Yers is The Goonies. Who can forget Chunk’s (Jeff Cohen) “truffle shuffle”?

The 1985 film, written by Steven Spielberg (pictured), follows a group of young misfits from Oregon who go searching for One-Eyed Willy’s treasure from a long-lost pirate ship in order to save their home from foreclosure.

It’s full of adventure preteens dream about and has a good underlying message: of kids taking action and making change. It was also Hollywood star John Brolin’s first film as the character Brand.
