The altitude and hot, dry summer climate make the Waitaki Valley ideal for growing lavender. Jo and Barry Todd’s Danseys Pass Lavender Farm is set in a lush green, rose-laden garden surrounded by rustic dry-stone walls which keep at bay the valley’s yellow paddocks. The Todds produce up to nine litres of lavender oil a year and sell their own ranges of skin care, aromatherapy and cosmetic products. They also sell lavender-tinted and flavoured ice cream made by Oamaru company Deja Moo. Visitors find their way to the Todd’s lavender farm by chance as they drive the Danseys Pass en route to Naseby and beyond while others make it a destination on a Sunday outing. Open Friday to Monday,
9am to 5.30pm, shop open October through to April.
