Scandinavian winter treats

The Knitter - - Loves -

At this time of year, we love to knit up cosy accessories - as gifts for the forthcoming festive season, or as quick-knit treats for ourselves. For inspiration, and for the chance to try out yarns which may be unfamiliar, take a look at Karie Westermann’s new e-book.

It’s called Hygge, after the Scandinavian concept of comfort and cosiness. Karie’s patterns use wool from Pirkkalanka in Finland and Ullcentrum in Sweden, which are available in the UK through Midwinter Yarns.

Designs include a pair of warm fingerless mitts, called ‘Skovtur’, the smart ‘Fiku’ shawl worked in 3ply yarn, and a slouchy hat with a simple lace pattern and a large pompom. Patterns are available to download individually, or as an entire collection for £13.80.
